Flights from Canada to Malaysia

Most international patients are treated in Kuala Lumpur, served by Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). There are no direct flights between Canada and Kuala Lumpur, so every route includes at least one connection.

Where to Stay

Most patients base themselves in Kuala Lumpur, which has the highest concentration of internationally accredited hospitals in the country. We arrange comfortable accommodation close to your treating hospital, with your companion included. Malaysia is warm and humid throughout the year, so air-conditioned accommodation is recommended in every season. The rainy monsoon period runs roughly from November to March and is heaviest on the east coast, while Kuala Lumpur is relatively sheltered. A regional haze can affect air quality between June and October, so patients who are sensitive to air quality may prefer to plan around those months.

Safety and Travel

The Government of Canada places Malaysia at its lowest travel risk level and advises travellers to take normal security precautions, the same level it applies to much of Western Europe. The cities used for medical care, including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, and Johor Bahru, are all on Peninsular Malaysia. The one area carrying a higher regional advisory, the east coast of Sabah, sits on the island of Borneo and is far from any of these medical destinations. Violent crime against visitors is uncommon.

As in any large city, keep an eye on your belongings in busy areas and at the airport, and use registered airport taxis or a trusted ride-hailing app. You can review the current advisory on the Government of Canada travel advisory for Malaysia

The country has more than 15 hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International, with the highest concentration in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian medical travel is built around medically necessary, outcome-focused care.
